چکیده

Purpose: While contrast-enhanced MR Angiography (CEMRA) is widely used for evaluation of vascular pathology, recent nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF) concerns following administration of Gadolinium based contrast agents have spurred interest in non-contrast MRA methods. Balanced steady state free precession (bSSFP) imaging [1-3] has shown great promise due to its high SNR and short scan times and has been successful in coronary and renal artery imaging. Robust fat suppression remains challenging at high field strengths due to B0 and B1 inhomogeneities. Conventional fat saturation compromises the SSFP steady state, causing ghosting artifacts. We propose GUINNESS (Group-encoded Ungated Inversion Nulling for Non-contrast Enhancement in the Steady State) a balanced SSFP-Dixon 3D technique with a novel group-encoded k-space segmentation scheme for breath-held non-contrast MRA.

Non-Contrast Enhanced Renal Angiography Using Multiple Inversion Recovery and Steady-State Free Precession

Introduction: Renal artery stenosis (RAS) is a well-known cause of renal hypertension and can lead to chronic kidney failure. The recent connection between gadolinium contrast agents and nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF) has prompted renewed interest in non-contrast enhanced MR angiography (NCE MRA) for the diagnosis of RAS, most notably methods based on 3D balanced steady-state free precessi...

Free-breathing renal MR angiography with steady-state free-precession (SSFP) and slab-selective spin inversion: initial results.

BACKGROUND The aim of our study was the investigation of a novel navigator-gated three-dimensional (3D) steady-state free-precession (SSFP) sequence for free-breathing renal magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) without contrast medium, and to examine the advantage of an additional inversion prepulse for improved contrast. METHODS Eight healthy volunteers (mean age 29 years) and eight patients...

Non-contrast Inversion Recovery Balanced Ssfp Mra of the Abdominal Aorta at 3t: Predicting Optimal Inversion times by Blood Velocity Measurement

Introduction Gadolinium-enhanced MRA is routinely used for evaluation of the abdominal vasculature. However, non-contrast-enhanced MRA is less invasive and especially desirable in patients with renal impairment who are at risk for Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis. Visualization of the abdominal aorta with non-contrast techniques remains challenging, because of demands for large field of view cover...

Balanced Phase Contrast Steady State Free Precession (PC-SSFP): Velocity Encoding by Gradient Inversion

chnique for velocity measurements (PC-SSFP) is presented that combines CINE Phase Contrast (PC) MRI and balanced Steady State Free Precession. Sensitivity to through plane velocities was established by inverting (i.e. negating) the slice select gradient for consecutively executed balanced SSFP pulse sequences. Velocity sensitivity (venc) could be adjusted by increasing the first moments of the ...
